Today’s song of the day is by Barnsley-based rockers, Toronto Blessings. Entitled U v U, it comes across as a record that will punch you in the face and kick you while you’re down. But if you dig deeper, it actually delves into a distressing subject – depression.
“Each day’s the same. Living in a place. It’s all too much. Waiting for this tightening clutch” – Rik Whitehead screams at the top of his lungs. This is a musician that wants to bare all. There’s no bullshit here. It’s one hundred percent emotion. What I especially like about the song is the feeling I get from it. When I usually listen to an experimental noise rock track, I want to throw my tv out of the window. Proper rockstar move. But on this occasion, I had to make a cup of green tea and really think about what I’d just heard.
Toronto Blessings are an unbelievable band. They don’t create music to look cool amongst their peers. They take you on a journey; one that’ll leave you confused and intrigued at the same time. Now go listen to it yourself.
