As a musician myself, it can sometimes be challenging to review other people’s songs. Want to know why? Because occasionally I’ll hear something like Disappearing Act by The Desert and think “why the hell didn’t I make this?”.
Disappearing Act is a song that builds upon itself constantly, like a murderous AI computer that must improve in order to destroy any music that isn’t cool as fuck. From the moment it begins, you find yourself in a world of intriguing melodies that effectively combine masterful songwriting with impressive production. The result is a soundscape that I’d happily spend many moons living within.
A track that concerns itself with change, the lyrics are deep and introspective. I found myself relating to the concepts of holding onto the past while stepping into the future, an act that can be both detrimental and positive.
Created in the midst of the lockdown, the music reflects its environment. If all that wasn’t enough to pique your interest, you need to check out the accompanying homemade video. It’s a trippy delight.
