Song Of The Day: Radidas – Do It

Posted byDaniel FaganFebruary 8, 2020Features, ReviewsRadidas

Earlier this month I had the pleasure of reviewing Sweet, the latest single by Brighton based powerhouse Porridge Radio. Once again the seaside town has offered up some of the best new music the country has to offer. Radidas are the electronic dance duo you need to hear in 2020.

Their latest single Do It lures you in with its chunky guitars, and the next thing you know it’s 2 am, you’re on a Miami dancefloor wearing your favourite Hawaiian shirt, and it feels like the night might last forever. Musically, the song is a production masterclass; unique in texture like a polished diamond with its seamless blending of eighties synth and Nile Rogers guitar hooks. It’s both electronic dance ecstasy and introspective guitar pop. The vocals sound vulnerable and honest, as the lyrics reference some of the most relatable aspects of humanity. The feeling of being lost, alone and past your prime are prevalent, and yet there’s an understanding of the nostalgic, rose-tinted spectacles through which life can often be viewed. In this sense, the act can be compared to a more modern version of Matt Johnson’s The The, who provided a catchy, upbeat, yet honest and scathing soundtrack for the disillusioned youth of nineteen-eighties Britain.

Radidas have released just two previous singles, Shockwave and Miles Per Yeah, but have played alongside the likes of Wolf Alice, Lets Eat Grandma and Bat for Lashes. My advice is that turn up the speakers and get immersed in their sounds, don’t think twice about it, Do It.
