Song Of The Day: Porto Geese – Tea

Posted byDaniel FaganJanuary 25, 2020FeaturesPorto Geese

Occasionally, we all experience that beautiful moment when a track grabs you from the second it begins and then refuses to let go. Tea is one of those songs.

My first impression of Porto Geese was “if Pond took every drug at once and started playing King Gizzard tunes, this is how they would sound”, but they don’t hail from beneath the sizzling sun of Australia. The genre-melding four-piece are firmly rooted in the heart of the Norwegian alternative rock scene, carving out their own identity in an oversaturated online world by creating music that refuses to be defined.

At times a demented merry go round, others a pleasant dream, Tea is a powerful debut single that is sure to make a brilliant first impression on anyone who hears it. The lead guitar and synth melodies go together exceptionally well, while a thumping beat and driving bassline makes the listener want to shake their hips. If a song can simultaneously make you disco dance AND headbang, you know that it’s going to be a staple in every self-respecting psych-rockers playlist this year.

Originating as a duo of Joar Renolen (vocals, synth) and Bendik Øvrelid (guitar), they are now a fully-fledged powerhouse after being joined by Halvor Eggen (bass) and Lars Hagensen (drums). Tea is just one exciting glimpse of what is to come, as the group get ready to release their debut EP Close on 7th February on Sheep Chase Records. I really can’t wait to hear the full EP. I’ve had my Tea, but I’m still thirsty for more!
