Over the years, Little Kid have done something many artists struggle to do, building up a fanbase without the help of a record label. This has been due to their excellent work ethic, songwriting prowess (courtesy of Kenny Boothby), and numerous support slots with other brilliant bands. However, all things must pass, and now Little Kid have finally signed a record deal with Solitaire Recordings. To mark this occasion, the Toronto-based musicians have delivered a new single in the form of Thief On The Cross.
Throughout the song, there’s a driving beat that blends with its call-and-response guitar parts to create a tune that will have you involuntarily nodding your head. It’s full of catchy melodies and has a peaceful, dreamy quality to it like some classic Whitney records, and it was the perfect fit as I sat outside in the sun earlier today, using it as my soundtrack. Lyrically, it’s a smart piece of work by Boothby. Using the crucifixion of Christ as a backdrop, the vocals ask that any successful bands that Little Kid have played with don’t forget them when they make it big. Full of tongue-in-cheek genius, the words alone make this track worth a listen.
The future looks bright for Little Kid, and we can’t wait to see what they do next. Check out this fantastic tune and let us know what you think!
