Long-distance relationships. They’re a bit of a hot topic on romance blogs. Now, I can’t say I’ve ever seen any of my colleagues at Independent Music News step into the shoes of a love guru, but today that all changes! I have proof that they work, and it comes in the form of Belle Sonder; a fantastic alternative two-piece made up of Liam Cook and Eirik Bøen Gravdal.
Liam lives in Manchester, Eirik lives in Bergen. Together, they make incredible songs across the vast waters of the North Sea. Having already published their compelling debut album, Collected, they’re only growing in strength. 2020 has seen the band release their latest single, How Do You Get Out (Of Your Head), which has already hit a thousand plays on Spotify and continues to grow in popularity each day. It’s easy to see why.
How Do You Get Out (Of Your Head) begins its four-minute duration with a dreamlike quality. The wavy guitar tones quickly infest the mind and induce a trance-like state in the listener, as an endearingly honest vocal delivery pulls on the heartstrings. It’s a song that wastes no time in getting straight into your soul, and that’s not an easy feat to achieve.
As time passes, the strength of the piece continues to grow. What started as a perfect dream evolves into an anthemic masterclass. The final minute is soaring indie at its best. This cements How Do You Get Out (Of Your Head) as a welcome addition to any festival stage, and once lockdown is over I’ll be attending a Belle Sonder gig as soon as I can. Check it out; you won’t regret it.
