When Tiger Mimic arrived in London from their native New York, they brought with them their distinctive sound of alt-rock and refreshing indie melodies. Produced by the talented Kevin Vanbergen (Kid Kapichi / Nova Twins), the band’s new single, It Was Still Dark, has unsurprisingly become a radio hit receiving support from various stations across the UK.
From the intro, It Was Still Dark bears all the traits of the unique Tiger Mimic, with its rollercoaster of energetic chugging guitar hooks and a melodic signature moody vocal line, it is almost so cinematic sounding, it wouldn’t be out of place on the soundtrack of a Quentin Tarantino film. This theatrical tone is backed by a drumbeat that virtually gallops along with a walking bass line, which not only serves as a rhythmic backdrop but also adds to the dynamic pulse of the song. The quick shifts in melody and tone throughout It Was Still Dark are so consistent that it gives an electric intensity and sense of urgency from the beginning.
With this single, Tiger Mimic are showing a remarkable maturity in their songwriting abilities since the release of their debut EP, Elephant Skeleton. Bringing with it colossal amounts of energy and a singable hook, the group have created a tune that is so enjoyable you’ll have on repeat.
