Review: Freak Heat Waves – Let It Go

Posted byDaniel ThomasJuly 22, 2020New Music, ReviewsFreak Heat Waves

Lockdown has been rough. I usually wake up at ten am, open the work laptop, make breakfast, with the occasional song about toast or boiled eggs, then lounge about watching reruns of Grey’s Anatomy. I’ve not even talked about my appearance or lack of hygiene yet. I’m on the next phase of BO, HABO – horrifically awful body odour. I haven’t seen my cat in weeks it’s that bad. Today though, today was different. I received an email from Freak Heat Waves, and enclosed was a new single titled Let It Go.

Taken from their forthcoming record, Zap The Planet, out on 4th September on Telephone Explosion Records, Let It Go is not only a fusion of experimental and post-punk sounds but a motivational piece of art. The hints of vaporwave and electronica are out of this world and will make you question your existence and habits. Is ten am an acceptable time to get up? Nope. Should I probably eat a plate of salad? Yes. Maybe exercise a little? Ok. Let It Go is a beautiful mix of dulcet tones, seductive vocals, and a trippy masterpiece; one that I will cherish and play on melancholic or lazy days.

Freak Heat Waves have previously released Nothing Lasts Forever and Dripping Visions in 2020, but Let It Go is probably my favourite of them all, possibly because it has transformed my secluded life. I’ve had a bath, and I’m ready to take on the world. Thanks.
