I’ve written a few reviews in which I praise songs that manage to do everything they need to within two minutes, and today I have another classic to add to that list. The track in question is Keep It Cool by Cucamaras.
It’s a particularly unique song, taking the theme of unrequited love and adding domestic technology into the mix. The narrator likes a girl who doesn’t want him back. Instead, she chooses to spend her time with another guy who has a particularly well air-conditioned bedroom. We’ve all been there. Full of excellent guitar riffs and passionate vocals, this is a prime example of what Cucamaras are capable of. They’ve already headlined sold-out shows and gained a loyal fanbase since their first releases in 2019, and it looks as though they’re on track to reach heights beyond this.
The music video for Keep It Cool is also pretty good, showing a football match played by Hucknall Town FC. I found myself getting really invested in the game itself and rooting for the Hucknall lads, and what made this experience even better was the fantastic song that accompanied it. I can’t wait to catch Cucamaras live, but for now, I’m off out to buy a new AC unit.
