Hailing from Chatham, New York, Citrus Maxima named themselves after a large fruit called pomelo; a fitting namesake when you hear the tasty jams they’ve been pumping out since their debut album Bloom was released back in 2018. Their latest single, Falling About, is a garage punk masterclass, assaulting you with a barrage of sound in the nicest way possible from start to finish. In this most recent offering, we’re treated to melodically magic indie rock that would sit comfortably within the Strokes debut album, Is This It?.
The trio is made up of childhood friends Lucas Rinaldi (guitar, lead vocals), Shawn Majeed (drums), and Wyatt Kirschner (bass), and like every great three-piece, they have the ability to make three instruments sound like six. In Falling About, they manage to cover a wide range of powerful, hard-hitting and thought-provokingly dynamic musical moments in the two minutes and twenty-four seconds, which will no doubt be an absolute favourite with fans during live performances.
Just as suddenly as the song has begun, an abrupt ending leaves the listener wanting more. The only solution is to click play and enjoy the ride all over again. Falling About is a strong, self-assured piece of songwriting from a band that refuses to settle on one genre, and we’re thrilled to be able to share it with you.
Let us know what you think, and keep an eye out for more Citrus Maxima in 2020.
