Review: Bryony Williams – I Can Be

Posted byStephen BillingtonJuly 1, 2020New Music, ReviewsBryony Williams

The Bryony Williams banger, I Can Be, I have graciously been handed is brimming with self-confidence, and why wouldn’t it be? It’s a song so pleasing to the ears that it reminded me of that time I got thirteen pieces of chicken at KFC instead of twelve. Good Lord, if only my life could meet such heights today. We can only dream, right?

On I Can Be, Williams immediately opens with the inspiring lyric “I can be anything I wanna be”, and you can’t help but be instantly filled with a happiness that has you believing you can shoot for the stars. My parents used to have a similar mentality towards my potential achievements until I was about twenty-eight. Now it’s more of an “at least you tried” approach. Anyway, back to the task at hand! I Can Be continues with the positivity throughout the track, with Williams singing about having fun. And that’s important! You need to remember that when life is going at 100mph, taking time to chill out is essential. Me? I post letters saying “I know what you did” throughout my neighbourhood and watch the paranoid mess unfold. Everyone has their hobbies.

I Can Be is simplistic, where it needs to be, in all the most beautiful ways, with its guitar and drum-led beat evoking a happy mood in the listener and Williams’ impressive vocals too; seemingly relaxed but oozing with passion. This is the kind of song you wack on in the car when you’re on a long road trip and want to keep yourself occupied and in a good spirit. Even your grumpy grandad will be giving a thumbs up to Williams, and he’s a bellend.

What else can I say? Bryony, you’ve got a new fan here after hearing I Can Be. It’s a tune that brightens up your day and inspires you to get creative.
