Well, this woke me up this morning! Pirouette, by the shambolic anti-pop quartet Y!KES, is a musical masterpiece and ready for liftoff on 14th August.
Taken from their second EP, Mass!ve, set to be released on 28th August, Pirouette is rip-roaring from the start and immediately grabs your attention. Y!KES exist to provoke thought in the mind, angst in the soul and rage in the heart. This song achieves just that and then some with its grungy guitars and gritty vocals.
The band only formed in February 2019, with the addition of the enigmatic frontman Oliver Long completing the line-up in September. Since then, they’ve gone on to release their debut EP, Everything Pointless Is Correct (Ep!c), and gained a loyal following in the process. The lockdown hasn’t stopped them either, transforming the Y!KES HQ garage into something out of the ’90s rave scene. Now that is a place I’d like to visit. I’d dance to Pirouette and have a ball.
Pirouette is out tomorrow. Listen to it now on Independent Music News!
