Premiere: Vandebilt – Feel

When I woke up this morning and looked out of the window, I was left disappointed. Rain, grey skies, and a sad-looking magpie greeted my eyes. Does anyone else remember a week ago when we were living in what seemed like the height of summer? It feels like a lifetime ago now. Upon seeing the sorry sight of my backyard, I stumbled over to my laptop, dejected, and pressed play on Feel, the new single by Vandebilt. Just like that, it was summer again.

You could be mistaken for thinking the noise-making quartet originate from a tropical island somewhere far away, but they are in fact based in Sunderland. Their ability to create music with such a powerful vibe from the second it begins is quite admirable, and I was instantly impressed. With Feel, they create a solid soundscape; a world within which the listener can exist for the next three minutes and forty-three seconds.

It’s easy to see why Feel has already been featured on BBC Music Introducing. Deep, driving synth sounds sit beneath shining pop melodies, bringing the song to life with a beat that you can’t help but dance to. And it’s not just the music that will make you feel good, the lyrics are hugely positive, evoking memories of unbridled love and hope. Vandebilt have bottled the feeling of finding the person or thing you’ve always wanted, and the relentless happiness that can accompany that discovery.

Songs like Feel are needed right now, and it certainly put a smile on my face and a spring in my step. In fact, I might go for a run in my shorts now. Screw you rain!
