Today’s premiere is a song by the superbly gifted artist, Tiggy. It’s a beautifully optimistic tune called Dear California, but as I glance over the title, I begin to sweat. My mind goes 100 mph, thinking of the postal charges incurred in sending letters to all of California. I then realise how old that makes me sound and take my first sip of White Lightning for the day. It was on offer, alright?! Save your judgement for elsewhere.
Dear California opens with an ethereal feel, kicking into gear and never stopping until the conclusion. It reminds me of the fantastic outfit Beach House, a band who have perfected a sound all their own. While Tiggy’s music is familiar, it’s been twisted and worked on to craft something unique to her, something a lot of artists can only aspire to.
I have to give a massive shout-out to the otherworldly vocals on Dear California; they are utter perfection, nothing less. The guitar-led single is, by Tiggy’s words, a “nostalgia-inducing tribute” record, and it’s easy to see why. It does feel like a song that could have been plucked from times gone by and dragged into the modern-day, bringing with it it’s own current feel. It’s beautiful, and it cannot fail to make you happier than before you hit play.
Dear California is out tomorrow. Listen to it now on Independent Music News.
