2020 has been rough. From the Australian bushfire crises to the current COVID-19 pandemic, the world still resides indoors, desperately waiting for a cure. Most haven’t left their homes in months, either ill or prone to sickness, relying on the kindness of individuals to survive. Fortunately, I can venture out, but even then, paranoia hits as I reach over for a tin of beans. If music was non-existent, I think I’d go slightly mad, and quite possibly punk rockers The Rezner would too. Their latest single, The Jive, is a hop, skip, and a jump into the future, where beer is flowing from every tap and venues are thriving.
A song that everyone will dance to, even the most miserable and uncomfortable, The Jive is an alt-rock track for a despondent generation. Stop pining over 2019 Ibiza pictures, float through the dark hole of abstruse TikTok videos, and gush over the sweet tones emitting for The Rezner. Sam Stone (vocals, guitar), Redley Flowerdew (guitar, vocals), Liam Palmer (bass) and Ze Barradas (drums) all deserve a medal for producing such an optimistic and cheerful tune. After watching countless YouTube dance tutorials, I even tried to jive. Unfortunately, it was more like a spasm, but I tried, and that’s the point of this song.
Get dressed, have a bath, then blast The Jive out of your speakers. Once hot and sweaty, make a brew, put YouTube on, and enjoy the music video for the song too. It’s a beautifully animated piece by Eva Nunney, and everyone at IMN loves it. Kiss.
