I slept in till noon today. I’m not proud of that, but having been furloughed for over three months now, my sleeping pattern is really getting out of hand. I needed a pick me up, and coffee just wasn’t working. When all hope seemed lost, I struck gold. My position as a writer for Independent Music News meant I had the pleasure of getting an exclusive watch of The Novus’ brand new music video for Man On The Bridge. Now I want to do laps around my living room.
Full of blistering guitars and a high energy rhythm section, this is a track that grabs you from the moment you press play and refuses to let go. Lyrically, it’s a fantastically crafted piece of work. The hugely catchy chorus makes reference to the eccentric “man on the bridge”, and while listening to this part of the song, I couldn’t help but think of the classic Limmy’s Show sketch in which a topless man walks through a suburban street proclaiming “she’s turned the weans against us!”. The combination of wit and social commentary present in Man On The Bridge is impressive, and each time I listen, I find something new to love.
Catchy, powerful, and produced to perfection, this is a brilliant offering from the West Midlands outfit. It’s no surprise that they’ve garnered attention from the likes of Huw Stephens at Radio 1, and I for one, can’t wait to see where they go next. Check out the Man On The Bridge music video! You know you want to.
