I have an addictive personality. If I see a multipack of doughnuts in the fridge, I’ll scoff six. At a family gathering, if there’s a buffet, I’ll stack my plate with an array of sandwiches, crisps, sausage rolls and pork pies. Don’t even mention cheesecake. CHEESE. CAKE. It’s smooth, biscuity, and oh so delicious. I could devour one right now, but I have a premiere to do. Plus, I need to lose weight.
As I jog on over to the next paragraph, I notice the name The John Andrews Band in bold on the press pack. Huffing and sweating, I quickly glance through the pages. Yes! They have a new single out tomorrow called Lucid, and I have the privilege of writing about it. AMAZING! Sorry, that’s my attempt at trying to stay calm. It’s just; I absolutely adore this act.
From Belfast, John Andrews has been plying his trade as a singer-songwriter for three years. In that time, he’s released numerous songs and an EP titled Johnny Was. Johnny is a talented musician, and his recent emergence see’s him team up with a rip-roaring band. Lucid is only their second single, their first being OMG, and it tackles the topic of alcoholism and the dangers of relapsing. My food issues are nothing in comparison. I might have a pie for tea. Damn you, Daniel. Sort yourself out!
Meat pie in the oven, let’s dive into the song. Lucid, in my opinion, is John’s best release. The stark subject, alongside a swaying flow, makes it an enjoyable listen. You can feel the emotion in every spoken word; the singer-songwriter is mourning an alternative world, a character no longer in his life. I could play this all day; it’s beautiful, yet harrowing.
Lucid is a must-listen. Pass it onto troubled ones, those who hate living in reality, who have an addiction and need help. Music is the best cure; The John Andrews Band are here to help.
