Have you ever been to Wigan? No?! You’re missing out. Famous for pea wet and babbies yeds, its beltin’. The music scene is pretty cool too. Bands like Bad Water, The Shook-Ups, and Cactus Knife have all rock and rolled their way into the history books. Then there are greats venues like The Tudor that’ll get you drunk and plough you with great music. Yes, you’ll probably need a translator to visit this small town in Greater Manchester, but you won’t leave feeling unsatisfied or hungry. Speaking of which, I might visit Pepper Lane Chippy tonight. I’ve heard they do a reet good fish and chips.
Before I venture out, The Stanleys from Wigan have a new single out today, and they’ve asked us to premiere it. Titled A Better Life, this Britpop song is a belter. Think The Auteurs mixed with Ocean Colour Scene, flowers blended with bangers and mash, and youthful exuberance squeezed into cans of cider. A Better Life promotes everything British. That’s not all, though. The meaning behind the song is one of reflection:
“A Better Life is a story about an old man looking back at his life and thinking of what could have been. It’s got a bit of sentimental value.”
Beautiful. Now instead of contemplating starting that business or running a marathon, listen to a Better Life and get on with it. We only have one life, live it. Wow, I need to wash my mouth out with bleach. Gross.
Did you enjoy it? I knew you would. You can buy yourself a copy on iTunes:
