Simon Masterson’s debut single gives us a sharp and distinctly Dublin-esque offering of crunchy guitars and soulful lyrics, and here at Independent Music News, we’re thrilled to be sharing Same Blue Jeans with you.
Luring you in with a dissonant descending synth line, life suddenly bursts from the speakers as Masterson delivers a tune so catchy it would have been outlawed in the medieval times for invoking devilish behaviour in its listeners. The melodies are infectious, the bass hits you square in the chest before it has a chance to approach your ears, and before you know it, you’re four cans deep twerking in your sweet old ma’s living room as she pleads with you to settle down.
The music sits comfortably alongside the introspective lyrics that seem to speak of grounding yourself through nostalgic rituals in our ever-changing world and the dangers that come with modern living. Masterson assures us that no matter how far things go, he’ll still be donning the Same Blue Jeans, and I think that’s a conviction we can all relate to on some level.
It’s hard to pin down exactly what makes the song so excitingly alluring, but we’re in store for more as the songwriter gears up to release his debut album Animal Rites on April 21st, and we can’t wait to hear it.
Check out Same Blue Jeans and let us know what you think.
Oh, and if you ever find yourself in a midweek slump, craving the sesh, check out Simon’s Instagram page in which we often catch him staring longingly at pints of Guinness.
