Good things take time. Occasionally, they happen very quickly and unexpectedly, but mostly, the moments that bring us joy develop over more extended periods. That certainly seems to be the case with Pelts’ upcoming album, A Little Less Lost, which has been two years in the making, and if their brand new single, Throwing Sticks, is anything to go by, then we’re in for a hell of a treat.
Kicking things off with an infectiously energetic beat, Throwing Sticks blooms like a flower, introducing the listener to a world of intricate melodies and soothing harmonies. Reminiscent of Arcade Fire’s classic album, The Suburbs, the track combines various influences while remaining inherently unique and original. It’s rare that a piece of music can pierce the soul within the first minute, and when it does happen, we should take note of it. Having been championed by BBC Radio 6 Music, the Scottish six-piece show no sign of slowing down with this latest offering, and in my opinion, it’s precisely what the post-lockdown world needs right now.
I get the sense that this would be a brilliant live tune, and once I get the chance, I’ll make sure to get down to a Pelts gig. Also, I don’t recommend throwing sticks at them, maybe opt for flowers instead.
