Thursday is always a great day here at Independent Music News. Most bands release music on a Friday, and you know what that means? We get loads of premieres to write about. We’re a lucky bunch. I feel fortunate because I got an exclusive listen of Hello Mind, the brand new EP by Meeking. Now I get to share it with you, so stop calling me a braggart! It’s a win-win situation for all.
From the moment it begins, the EP is powerful. Alternative rock at its best, Hello Mind has everything you could want in its four-song duration. Opening track Make You Scream gives the listener an indication of what to expect, displaying an immense dynamism and musical ability. I was impressed by the lead guitarist’s ability to switch between subtle, complementary tones, and face-melting solos. This is indicative of the whole experience you get when listening to Meeking. They’re able to offer a whole host of emotions within the confines of a three-minute song.
Each track on Hello Mind has an identity as unique as the band itself, and when you reach the closing moments of the final song, Live A Life, you’ll find yourself wondering where the time went. Combining moments of emotive reflection with soaring and uplifting rock, Meeking are reminiscent of some of the best acts of the ’90s. They’d sit comfortably beside the likes of The Smashing Pumpkins and Foo Fighters on a festival line-up, and I for one hope to catch them live once the lockdown is over. Check out Hello Mind and let us know what you think!
