At the age of sixteen, I was a proper bore. Life consisted of school, a couple of games of curby, and Pokémon. Hours spent catching weird-looking monsters and talking to suspect individuals. Yes! I’m talking about you, Brock. You’re too obsessed with rocks. Get a personality. I recommend you listen to Leeds-based post-punk rockers, L’objectif, and their new single, Cinematic. It will instantaneously change your life.
Cinematic by name, cinematic by nature. This two-piece, both aged sixteen, will lead you through a soundscape full of joy, chill vibes, and bullish tones. Reminiscent of the beloved Wu-Lyf, and their three-dimensional sound, this song will travel through your body, hit all the emotional spots, then delicately exit. This isn’t bullshit, over the top music. No, no, no. If you’re after that, read the NME. No, this is a masterpiece, a colourful reflection of the youth. It’s refreshing to hear such a young band make relatable tunes about love and life. Seriously! I shift through all the emails at IMN, and this is the most sophisticated track I’ve heard in 2020.
L’objectif, you do you. Don’t copy others or replicate older sounds. Keep penning stories, ideas and notions, and making tunes that are so undeniably addictive, they’ll be remembered forever.
Cinematic is out tomorrow. Listen to it now on Independent Music News.
