The state of isolation can bring with it a whole host of emotions. As I watched the music video for Jack Grant’s new single, I felt like I’d seen it before in a distant dream. It’s a lonely song that craves for something, and yet within the yearning is a voice that is grounded and comfortable with itself. Familiar, yet foreign, the track evokes the sort of feelings that come with the title Solace.
Somewhat reminiscent of the best parts of King Krule’s music, Grant reminds us once again never to underestimate a man with a guitar. Each new layer of sound Solace brings forth adds texture to the track, making it a fluid and solid listening experience.
I don’t know much about the indie music scene in Leeds, but if Grant is anything to go by, the people of the city are fortunate indeed. Check out Solace; you won’t regret it.
