Now this is truly sumptuous. Perfect listening for a sunny Sunday afternoon, Limbo is a pleasant folk song with a striking clarinet sound and soothing, yet melodic vocals.
Born in Denmark before moving to the UK, Asthmatic Harp brings us a glorious honey-bathed track based on a poem by writer and performer, Roma Havers. Having heard Roma perform Limbo at a spoken word event in the basement of a Nottingham pub, the folk artist knew she just had to put music to it.
The aforementioned clarinet really complements the gently strumming guitar and the clarity of the Bjork-esque vocals. Lyrics such as “like a slowly freezing pond” demonstrate the emotional intensity of the poem, and Asthmatic Harp has done it justice with a beautifully lifting track comprising of dramatic tones which rise and fall accordingly.
Limbo is taken from the EP, Things We Learned To Live With, a collection of contemporary folk ballads set for an autumn 2020 release. If her latest single is anything to go by, we’re in for a treat.
