Sometimes a song barges its way into your life that connects with you in a way that only incredible art can, rocking you to your very core, making you question everything. This is what Bedwetters did for me. It’s a song by Adam & Elvis, and for a moment I wonder if anyone ever clocks when Elvis leaves somewhere, only to say “Elvis has left the building”. I would do that, but then I don’t have many friends.
The opening line of Bedwetters is “I am the newest signing for Bedwetters United”. Is that a football club? Or an Alcoholics Anonymous group? I’m not sure if Bedwetters United is something I would join. Don’t get me wrong, I’ve heard the cake is good, but the name alone conjures up bad memories of nappies and soaked sheets. I don’t really want to think about last week again.
The tune itself is jaunty. Can I use that word, or does it make me officially old? I’m not sure, but it fits. It’s such a fun, carefree song that almost inspires you to embrace the most embarrassing elements of yourself with a cheery demeanour; I feel like yelling about my humiliating pornography preferences publicly and completely in the nude. It’s Kony 2012 all over again. But seriously, this track is so feel-good and positive. You almost want to do the Carlton dance in time to it. Almost. Okay, I may have done it.
The instrumentation, the vocals, the lyrics, all of it just leaves you with that type of amazing feeling after you’ve sealed the deal with a bit of tonsil tennis on the first date. I love that the most repeated lyric of Bedwetters is “We are tired of being bedwetters”. I don’t know what to suggest; music is a way of expressing the deepest of feelings, fears, or elation and joy. Here, it’s being used to voice concerns about bad habits at night time. This is why I’d make a terrible agony aunt; I can’t deal with these types of issues without having to leave the room to laugh.
Adam & Elvis have me hooked and wanting more. The song is so positive and fun, it plants a smile on your face and improves your day. And isn’t that what good music is all about? Independent Music News is proud to premiere Bedwetters by Adam & Elvis. Keep an eye out for their upcoming album, Pub Grub, too. It’s out on the 15th of February. Nice.
